Things to Know Before Buying a Wig Online

Things to Know Before Buying a Wig Online

Given the large range of wig options in Australia including cap constructions, human or synthetic hair, different styles and sizes, it’s hard to know where to start. If you don’t do your research and get advice from experts, you may become a victim of counterfeit product sales or end up with a wig that’s not right for you in the long term.

We offer honest, caring advice and are more than happy to help you in choosing the right wig. Feel free to contact us, browse our Tips Section or Freephone 1800-427-485 for discreet and professional advice.

Choosing the Best Wig for You: Which Wig Do I Need?

Over time, we have seen the quality and options for wigs and hair pieces in Australia improve dramatically. This makes it fun to choose a new wig, but it is also confusing to differentiate all the options for styles, sizes, constructions and hair types.

While we encourage you to book a consultation with one of our experts so you can get personalised wig advice, we’ve also put together a Choosing Your First Wig Guide to help you learn about the ins and outs of buying a wig (in a store or online from home).

Wig Styles

Some people like to go for a fresh new look, while others prefer something similar to their previous hair. Whatever you decide, there are many styles to try and see what looks best. The main styles are:

Wig Sizes

We recommend getting fitted properly fitted for a wig size by one of our local wig experts. We stock Average, Petite and Large sizes, of which most people fit the Average size. All of our wigs have two adjustable Velcro straps with about one inch give, so the wig can be tightened or slackened to suit. Read our Determining Wig Size page to find your perfect fit.

Wig Types: Human & Synthetic

Whether you choose a human or synthetic hair, your hair will always look great because all our wigs are made with the best quality hair available. There are however advantages and limitations to each type, and the right choice will depend on your situation. We have put together a useful guide to Human Hair and Synthetic Hair Wigs to help you assess the differences.

Wig Cap Construction

A wigs cap is the part of the wig or hair replacement that the hair is attached to. There are different construction types, and each type has its own advantages so it’s important to learn the differences and find the best type for you. The cap construction types are:

Wig Colours

Selecting the best colour will make a huge difference to how your wig looks. Our consultants help clients try new colours to help feel confident and vibrant, whilst also maintaining a natural appearance. Read more about Choosing your Wig Colour with Confidence.

Buying Wigs Online: What Are the Key Considerations?

It’s not uncommon to hear of people being scammed when buying products online, or being misled into purchasing counterfeit wig products. With so many online sellers in Australia, it can be hard to know the best choice, so it’s important to stay smart when buying a wig. The main considerations to staying safe when buying wigs online are:

Choose Reputable Sellers

Like any investment, it’s sensible to check the reviews and reputation of the company you are purchasing from. Good companies have positive reviews, are forthcoming with contact and support information, and have secure websites. Specifically, check for:

Online reviews – review different reviews from different sources in your local geographic

Contact details – if something goes wrong, you’ll need to be able to contact them quickly

Secure websites – Check for the padlock and “https” in the website address bar

Beware of Counterfeits

Top quality wig brands are few and far between. We are dedicated to selling and protecting the Raquel Welch and Ellen Wille brands that have been proven over many years to be the best high quality wigs available on the market. However, there are many websites selling counterfeit products that will take your money and may not deliver your order, and we encourage people to contact us if they see something suspicious. You can read more Counterfeit Wigs Information here.

Check the Price and Returns Policy

Many get scammed into buying wigs online only to find when it arrives that it’s not right and there’s either no returns policy, or a policy that won’t allow an exchange or their money back. Be sure to check the returns policy to make sure there are no surprises before you buy. Also, if the price seems too good to be true, it probably is – chances are the product is a counterfeit or copy of a genuine brand which means the quality and/or style will not be as you expected.
