Caring for your Wig or Hairpiece

Buying a wig or hairpiece can be a big investment, you will want to make sure that it stands the test of time and continues to look fabulous for as long as possible.

We sell high quality, European made wigs that are sure to last well; however- like most things – they need proper care and attention to keep them looking and feeling their best.

Ellen Wille gives great guidance on how to care for their wigs and hairpieces. We strongly advise any new (or existing) wig owner to keep up to date with wig and hairpiece care guidelines. Ellen Wille spends time researching and testing new ways to care for wigs and hairpieces, as new technology is developed and they will periodically share updated care guides.

Read our newly updated guides: Caring for your Synthetic Hair Wig and Caring for your Human Hair Wig to get step-by-step information on how to care for your wig or hairpiece.

As always, you can also always contact a team member at Elly-K for up to date advice and tips around caring for your wig. The links below will take you to the Ellen WIlle Youtube videos outlining how to care for synthetic and human hair wigs:

General Tips for Caring for Your Wig or Hairpiece

In addition to the updated Ellen Wille wig care guides for synthetic and human hair wigs, we have some general wig care tips to share:

  • Store your wig correctly when not in use – Elly-K recommends you have a wig stand or mannequin to hold your wig when you aren’t wearing it. This helps your wig to hold its shape and style.
  • Have a second wig – If possible, try to have a second wig to use when your wig is not able to be worn (for example if it is drying after being washed). Having 2 wigs will also lengthen the lifespan of the wigs as they will be used in turn.
  • Use products made for wigs – Please make sure any products you use are wig specific. Using non specific products will cause a build up on the wig hair. This could change the appearance of the wig as well as shortening its lifespan.
  • Keep wigs away from direct heat – As you would with your own hair, be mindful of the distance between you and heat sources. This is particularly important if you are wearing a standard synthetic wig but is good practice when wearing all wigs. Consider wearing a hat or scarf when cooking.

If you have any questions about wigs please contact us via phone or send us an email. Alternatively visit the friendly team at one of our stores located throughout Australia. We are happy to help in any way we can.
